In a recent article from The New York Times, Allen finds himself once again on the outside looking in by the national critics, behind both Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow in their latest ranking.

When the Buffalo Bills drafted Josh Allen, I’m not sure if anyone could’ve guessed what would come to pass over the following years. From a QB who was told he wouldn’t make it in the NFL, to being ridiculed over his turnovers, Allen has faced his fair share of criticisms throughout his NFL career, but has always risen to the occasion and proved everyone wrong.

Despite not raising the Lombardi trophy (yet), Allen has proven that he’s one of the very best in the entire league.

Josh Allen is still disrespected by critics

Once again, in the year 2025, we’re still finding people who are downplaying what the superstar QB can do on the football field.

Whether he’s hurdling a linebacker, outrunning the safety for a TD, or evading in the pocket and making something out of nothing, Josh Allen has a history of wow plays that shouldn’t be possible from a QB.

Now, the New York Times article titled “NFL QB Tiers 2025: Lamar Jackson cracks Tier 1, Jayden Daniels sets rookie record,” has quickly taken the internet by storm with fans from all teams checking in to see where their QB1 ranked compared to the competition.

Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen round out the top 3

In the article, Mike Sando concluded that the top-3 QBs in the NFL are Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow tied at first, with Allen coming in at third overall.

Despite winning an MVP trophy and limiting his turnovers to destroy a media narrative, it seems that, even still, Allen hasn’t done enough in some of these critics’ eyes to earn the number one spot.

Here’s what Sando had to say about Allen: “Allen ranks a tick below Mahomes and Burrow, even though some consider him the most challenging to defend. That’s because a few voters valued pure passing over running strongly enough to place a line after Mahomes and Burrow.” Sando discussed why Allen might’ve fallen below even the Kansas City Chiefs QB in his ranking.

Speaking on Allen’s abilities, “Josh Allen presents some issues that Mahomes doesn’t present, just how strong he is and how good of a runner he is,” one voter said. “I watched him single-handedly beat us. It’s just, God, you can’t tackle him. And he’s got a cannon.”

Josh Allen is a blend of elite QBs

Allen is a Frankenstein monster of sorts, with blends of multiple QBs to formulate an otherworldly QB. Explained in the article as another reason why Allen might’ve fallen short of the top spot, “Josh Allen is the toughest quarterback to defend,” a defensive coordinator said. “He is a combination of Lamar and Burrow. Lamar is the better runner. Burrow is the better pure passer. Josh is right in the middle. He can sling the ball around for 400 yards. If you have that covered, he can run for 100 yards, too.”

Despite limiting his turnovers and taking his game to the next level, which saw the QB win an MVP, critics are still finding ways to bring up this aspect in Allen’s game: “The only thing that has been an issue for him is turnovers playing hero ball, and that was better last year.” While giving Allen his flowers for his limited turnovers, docking him points after he turned things around seems a little ridiculous.

That’s not to say that Mahomes and Burrow aren’t elite QBs. The Kansas City Chiefs QB has won multiple Super Bowls and has been seen as the face of the league over the past few seasons. Despite a down year for Patrick, he ranked above Allen for the upcoming season.

Don’t sleep on Josh Allen

Remember last year, before the season began, when Allen was called the biggest trash-talker and the word “overrated” was making the rounds on social media and among his peers.

Allen followed it up with an MVP campaign, which had the haters furious. QB1 had a hilarious response on social media when learning about how good his trash talk was.

While Allen was given his flowers and placed in the top three, we have a feeling that the larger-than-life QB is going to use this as fuel to perform even better this upcoming season. It’s nothing new for Allen as he’s faced plenty of adversity well before playing even a single snap in the NFL.

Opposing defenses should be terrified. Allen is going to come ready to play and prove everyone wrong, once again. We’re more than excited to see what he’s able to accomplish this upcoming season.
