Ferris State quarterback Trinidad Chambliss knew what he was getting himself into. But, the national champion quarterback at the Division II level knew it was the best move for him and his future.
When the talented transfer portal prospect chose Ole Miss, many questioned it due to Austin Simmons being the heir apparent to Jaxson Dart. But, Chambliss never flinched.
“Coming to Ole Miss, I feel like with any school you got to bet on yourself,” Chambliss said. “You can’t back down from competition. When I came down for my visit here I felt like it was a great family atmosphere. Reminded me of my old school at Ferris State. The coaches are great with their team and great with their staff. Just coming here, just betting on myself, putting my best foot forward and being the best person and player that I can be for this team no matter what role that is.”
Despite both being competitors and wanting the same thing, Trinidad Chambliss raves about his relationship with Austin Simmons.
“It’s been great. We all bounce ideas and what we see on the field,” Chambliss said. “Whether it’s coverages-wise, you know, ‘Hey, we think you should’ve went here,’ or ‘we saw.’ It’s been good. Nothing but positivity in the quarterback room.”
Last year, Chambliss threw for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He also ran for 1,019 yards and 25 touchdowns – leading Ferris State to a 14-1 record and a Division II national championship throttling of previously undefeated powerhouse Valdosta State.
Despite most speculating he would be a gadget piece for the offense in 2025, Chambliss says he is being prepared as if he’s going to be QB1, just like Simmons.
“There hasn’t been any new packages for me,” Chambliss said. “There’s just going to put me in the best position possible to execute the whole offense. They’re not trying to really narrow anything down for me. Making sure I know the installs. Make sure that if my name gets called I’m ready to go out there and execute.”

Ole Miss is looking to make the College Football Playoff for the first time. Trinidad Chambliss intends to help the Rebels do it.
“I know Ole Miss has been chasing the national title for years and an SEC title for years. They brought me on board to be the best person and player that I can be,” Chambliss said. “I’m just going to put my best foot forward in whatever role that is, to help this team win. And I’ll do whatever it takes for this team to win.”
Ole Miss opens up with Georgia State August 30 at 6:45pm CT. Head coach Lane Kiffin and Co., are hoping to make it a third-straight double-digit win season in Oxford.
