A pre-regular season trade has captivated the Cincinnati Bengals before. B.J. Hill for Billy Price was a straight fleece, as was Reggie Nelson for David Jones several years prior. When the value is in their favor, their phone always works.

Value is most present on the Bengals’ roster at the wide receiver position. Yes, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins now cost a fortune, but the overall quality of the room as never been stronger around them. If there’s a position they could offer other teams in a trade leading up to Week 1, it’s this one.

That makes things a bit interesting when looking at the latest NFL trade rumors.

Bengals can capitalize on teams looking to trade for wide receivers

While Cincinnati has a borderline embarrassment of riches at receiver, “several” teams according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini are monitoring the trade market at the position. Russini specifically notes the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and San Francisco 49ers as interested clubs.

It goes without saying Chase and Higgins are untouchable, and the same can probably be said about Andrei Iosivas as the No. 3 of the group, but what about everyone else?

Charlie Jones has had his best training camp to date and is safely one of the first off the bench and is also the primary kickoff returner His progress should make him less expendable now compared to a month ago, especially as a fourth-round pick just two years ago.

Jermaine Burton is an interesting wild card. He’s got the draft status that entices but he’s yet to do anything beyond that. His working back from a knee injury put a damper on his preseason but he’s been locked in mentally like he needs to be, which should keep him from a falling out with the team.

Mitchell Tinsley and Isaiah Williams are the main names to focus on here. Odds are only one will make the 53-man roster and while the former seemed to pull ahead of the latter after Monday night’s victory, Williams would still be a tough cut for the team to make. If they could get a late-round pick or a similar player in return at guard, safety, or another position of need, that could get the Bengals to return a call or two.

If there is indeed interest in receivers, then Cincinnati is definitely a club to watch. The Bengals close their preseason on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. Any trade would likely be made after that game concludes and other scouting departments parse through the tape.
