Steelers dodge a bullet after rookie first-rounder Derrick Harmon goes down with a scary knee injury and concerning reaction
A collective sigh of relief.
In what was one of the worst first halves of Pittsburgh Steelers football in recent memory, the fumbles, interceptions, and penalties were all forgotten when Derrick Harmon went down with an injury.
The concern turned immediately to the first round pick from April and it wasn’t until he was back on the sideline laughing that some of the concern waned.
And now we have the injury from Coach Tomlin…
Derrick Harmon Suffers Knee Sprain
“Had a couple injuries of note,” said Coach Tomlin after the game. “Derrick Harmon has a knee sprain of some description. He’s being evaluated. Brandon Johnson’s got a foot injury of some description. He’s also being evaluated. Those are the two significant injuries, some other bumps and bruises associated with play, but nothing of note at this point other than those two.”
Surely a giant sigh of relief when Harmon came back to the sidelines, he was laughing and looked to be in a joyful manner, which was a stark contrast to what we saw when he left the field with a towel over his head and an emotional look on his face.
“He’s out here now on the sideline, sitting on the bench in between Cam Heyward & TJ Watt,” said Steelers sidelines reporter Missi Matthews during the broadcast. “The Steelers’ locker room is on the opposite side of this sideline. He was able to walk out here in street clothes. So we’re gonna take that as a good update.”
So obviously, it’s a major win for the Steelers, even if the unknown of the knee sprain is lurking. With only 16 days until kickoff to Week 1 via publish time, Harmon’s regular season debut could be in some jeopardy.
But first is roster cutdown day and after what was an eventful preseason to say the least, I think it’s fair to assume we could be in for a few surprises when the Steelers’ 53-man roster is finalized on Tuesday the 26th.
