Cleveland Browns predicted to trade for talented NFC running back amidst Quinshon Judkins not being on the field
A move that may make some sense for the Browns to make.
The Cleveland Browns play their final preseason game tomorrow against the Los Angeles Rams, and it will mark the first time this preseason that the starters get extended action.
One player who won’t be out there is rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, the only rookie in the NFL who has yet to sign his contract. Judkins recently had a domestic violence charge in Florida no-billed, but despite that, the Browns still haven’t signed him as the league’s investigation continues.
News broke yesterday that the Browns are exploring trade options for running back help, which suggests Judkins may not be on the field anytime soon.
Cleveland Browns predicted to trade for Washington Commanders RB Brian Robinson
Washington is expected to move one of its starting running backs before roster cutdowns, and the Browns could be a team that makes sense to pull the trigger. It is the Browns who land Robinson, predicts CBS Sports:
“Despite handling the bulk of Washington’s carries for the first three years of his career, Robinson is all but a lock to exit the Commanders’ suddenly crowded backfield after strong summer showings from youngsters like Jacory ‘Bill’ Croskey-Merritt and Chris Rodriguez Jr., the latter of whom started the club’s last preseason game. Solid if unspectacular, the Alabama product appears to be open to a fresh start thanks to his murkier role.” — Cody Benjamin, CBS Sports
Cleveland will be leaning on Jerome Ford and rookie Dylan Sampson to carry the load for now. Adding another proven back while Judkins remains sidelined makes a lot of sense. The Browns’ run game has struggled the past two years, so any boost would be welcome for an offense that badly needs balance.
Health has been Robinson’s biggest hurdle through his first three NFL seasons. Last year, he posted 799 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games. He also cleared 700 yards in each of the two seasons prior. At 26 years old, the former Alabama standout still has the ability to be a featured back or provide high-quality depth.
Cleveland has not yet been directly linked to Robinson, and it’s unclear if the team would pursue a move that significant or instead look for a smaller addition to shore up the back end of the depth chart. With roster cutdowns to 53 players looming next Tuesday, any trade is likely to happen before then.
