The Minnesota Vikings are continuing to confirm the report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and are seriously calling about trading for a wide receiver. That comes with Jordan Addison being suspended for three games and the uncertainty behind him with Jalen Nailor nursing a hand injury.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings have made a call that the entire fanbase has been asking them to make: to acquire former Minnesota pro bowler Adam Thielen from the Carolina Panthers.
Vikings trying to trade for Adam Thielen
This is a big move for the Vikings to make for a multitude of reasons. Adding a wide receiver for just a couple of weeks is a smart move, but how much are you going to want to pay for that player? This would be a different situation, as Thielen would be a positive for the entire season.
Now comes the intriguing part with Thielen. He was with the Vikings for a decade after being an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State-Mankato, after receiving a paltry $500 scholarship, and he made the team after a rookie minicamp tryout and make the practice squad in year one.
In Thielen’s second year, he made the 53-man roster and scored his first touchdown on a blocked punt in 2014. Shortly after, Thielen started impressing as a wide receiver. He was so good that he overcame a first round pick in Laquon Treadwell to become the starter and he made two Pro Bowls with the Vikings, forming a dynamite pairing with Stefon Diggs.
Things didn’t end the best for Thielen in Minnesota, as he was cut as a salary dump after the 2022 season after they couldn’t agree on a restructured contract. He then signed a three-year, $25 million contract with the Panthers, and has been solid for them over the course of the last two years, being a beacon of consistency for a young Bryce Young.
The last two offseason, Thielen has been working out in the offseason with starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy, so there is already some chemistry there. Plus, he already knows the offense, making the transition easier. Let’s see if it ends up working out.
