Yesterday, the New York Giants announced their initial 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season. There were a handful of surprises, as some high performers did not make the team.
Now that their roster is close to finalized, the Giants have begun the process of forming their practice squad. So far, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, the list includes a handful of players that some fans feared wouldn’t make it past waivers.

Many Giants fans were stunned that Miller and Chatman did not make the final 53-man roster, given the praise they received from the coaching staff during the preseason.
Miller was a highly productive receiver out of the backfield and a player of high effort on special teams. It seemed possible for him to make the team as a fourth running back after Daboll laid out a path for him to stick around. The Giants clearly do value Miller by keeping him on the practice squad for a second straight season.
Chatman didn’t have the requisite size to stick with the Giants, especially as the listed backup to the massive Dexter Lawrence. But there was significant coverage on Chatman’s second role as the team’s fullback. The Giants didn’t have a fullback on the roster, so Chatman staying because of his versatility made sense. He’s another player the team seems to hold in high regard.
