Green Bay Packers fans couldn’t be more excited about a monster trade that landed edge defender Micah Parsons in Wisconsin. But it’s not only the fans that can’t stop smiling. Quarterback Jordan Love is also ecstatic about what general manager Brian Gutekunst was able to pull off.

On Instagram stories, Love shared the breaking news from an ESPN post, with three fire emojis. It’s a simple gesture, but it shows how explosive and powerful this move is for the present and the future of the franchise.

Big trade, big consequences

The Packers gave up two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark in a trade package for the Dallas Cowboys. In addition, Green Bay will pay him $47 million on new money yearly average. In total, it’s a four-year, $188 million extension.

Because Parsons had one year left on his contract with the Cowboys, the deal is essentially a five-year, $212 million pact, through 2029.

The Packers are now the only team in the NFL to pay $100 million on yearly average to just two players, with Jordan Love making $55 million a year.

Close connection

Jordan Love and Micah Parsons know each other very well. Agent David Mulugheta represents both players, and that made their connection more obvious. Mulugheta is one of the most powerful agents in the NFL world, and this sequence of great deals with the Packers in consecutive years is proof of that.

Now, Micah Parsons joins which can become one of the best edge rusher rooms in the entire league. He’s the primary piece in a group that now has three former first-round picks—the other two are Rashan Gary and Lukas Van Ness. The depth also has Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox, and rookies Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver, albeit Oliver starts the season on the physically unable to perform list.
