Buffalo makes history in latest ESPN prediction that’s sure to have Bills Mafia ready to find the nearest folding table
We can’t wait for the season to begin.
It’s game week, ladies and gentlemen. The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens are set for action on Sept. 7 for what has all the makings of an instant classic. Before the team can even take the field, Seth Walder from ESPN gave the Bills some flowers with a prediction that’s sure to fire up the Bills Mafia. In his prediction, he not only has Josh Allen repeating as MVP, but has Buffalo winning their first-ever Super Bowl against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 55-23 rout in which James Cook takes home the MVP after scoring three touchdowns. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
Obviously, any article that talks about Bills and Super Bowls brings up the fact that the team lost four straight in the 1990s. For someone born in 1994, I have been constantly reminded of the infamous four straight losses, even though the last loss came only months after I was born. Much like the rest of the fan base, it’d be nice to finally win one after being so close in years prior. Getting over the hump isn’t going to be easy, but having Allen as the quarterback means that it’s never fully out of reach.
Allen and company take care of business
In the prediction, Walder has Buffalo earning the No. 1 seed and taking on the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the playoffs. Then, in the last game at Highmark Stadium, Allen and the Bills, in snowy conditions in Western New York, took care of business against Baltimore (again) to advance to the Super Bowl. Then, as we mentioned, a win against the Buccaneers would see the team hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Walder broke down exactly how the game would go down, a nice little touch on his prediction outside of just saying that the Bills would win. We’re all here for it.
The betting market pegged the Bills as 7.5-point favorites over the Buccaneers, which was more than enough. The Bills opened with a two-score lead in the first eight minutes on a 56-yard touchdown run by James Cook. It didn’t get closer, so Allen hardly needed to make big plays. Cook took home Super Bowl LX MVP with his three touchdowns, and the Bills were finally victorious, trouncing Tampa Bay 55-23
Taking a beat, could you imagine the parade in Western New York? General manager Brandon Beane had said that if the team ever won the big game that he’d go through a table and probably get fired with what he’d do with the fans afterward. Sorry, New York Jets and New York Giants, Buffalo is truly the only New York team.
Bills Mafia is more than broken tables
On top of the partying, I could see it being one of the most charitable days from the fan base that’s known to go above and beyond with their donations. Oishei Children’s Hospital wouldn’t have another wing to be renamed — maybe they’d have a whole new hospital. Okay, sorry, I just get really excited thinking about a potential Super Bowl win, but it would be incredible.
There’s a lot of football to be played between now and Super Bowl LX, with plenty of question marks heading into the season. While dreaming of a Lombardi Trophy is nice, the team is going to take it one week and one opponent at a time. I’ll keep my folding table at the ready, though — you can never be too prepared. Also, it goes without saying, but I don’t condone flying through a table (but if you do send it to me).
For now, I’ll just dream of Beane getting thrown through a table with the biggest smile on his face.
