Kansas City Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown is finally healthy and ready to show the world what he can do alongside his teammates.

Brown’s 2024 NFL season was disrupted after he suffered a sternoclavicular joint injury on the first offensive play of Week 1 of the preseason. The injury would put his entire year in doubt, but it was also a brutal blow mentally, knowing all the strides he’d made to integrate into the Chiefs’ offense in the offseason. Who did he rely on in those trying times?

“Everyone,” Brown said. “Last year was tough for me mentally. So, this time around (I’ve) leaned on my family, on my coaches (and the) chaplain, everybody that is there for me. I feel blessed to be in this position.”

Brown was able to return for the playoffs and was officially activated to the 53-man roster on December 20th. In two games to end the regular season, Brown caught nine passes on 15 targets for 91 yards. In three playoff games, including Super Bowl LIX, Brown was targeted 13 times, catching five passes for 50 yards. It was hardly what he’d envisioned when he initially joined the team, which prompted him to re-sign on a one-year deal this offseason and try again.

Then, the 28-year-old had another injury scare during training camp. It was a foot/ankle injury where he pulled up lame in the endzone. The injury that sidelined him for the entire preseason and the majority of training camp. It truly felt like an “Oh, no, here we go again” moment for Brown.

“Of course,” Brown said. “I mean, I’m human, but ultimately, like with everything that I’ve been through, I never really get too high, too low. So, you know, after that day, I probably was in my feelings a little bit that day. But moving forward, I just went to attacking it most behind the scenes, just to get ready for Week 1.”

Alas, Brown was successful in that goal. He participated fully in practice all week leading up to the Week 1 game against the Chargers in Brazil. He says that he will be ready to go on Friday.

“Feeling good,” Brown said. “Blessed. Real good.”

Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown is ready to showcase chemistry with Patrick Mahomes alongside Xavier Worthy and others

This particular Week 1 has been a long time coming for Brown. He’s aiming for a fully healthy season because it’s something he hasn’t been able to accomplish since 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens.

“Yeah, definitely for a while,” Brown said. “Even before I got here, I didn’t finish the season in Arizona. So, you know, I feel like this. This is one of my first seasons in a while.”

Despite not having the preseason to further develop his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes, Brown is eager to show how far the QB-WR combination has come since the 2024 offseason. But how far has that chemistry come?

“A lot,” Brown said of his chemistry with Mahomes. “I mean, it’s easy to build chemistry with a guy like that. It’s basically feeling our speed and feeling (out) how I like to do things, and from that point on, you know the guys, he gets it there.”

While they won’t have Rashee Rice for the first six games of the season, Brown says the entire room plays with a next-man-up mentality. He’s excited to get on the field with Xavier Worthy and his other teammates in the receiver room to showcase what they can accomplish when they’re all together.

“It’s exciting,” Brown said. “Definitely excited to take the field with him (Xavier Worthy) – with all the guys. Just ready to showcase what we can do.”
