Georgia Bulldogs (2-0) sophomore running back Chauncey Bowens logged his best game to date in the team’s 28-6 win over Austin Peay (1-1) on Saturday afternoon.

Bowens finished the carrying the ball 11 times for a career-high 56 yards and two scores.

“Really physical. I thought he got yards after contact. He was running violently,” head coach Kirby Smart said afte rthe game. “He’s got really good power in his lower body. He runs behind his pads. We’ve noticed that all camp. He’s broken a lot of tackles. I though he had a little more burst and spring in his step today. And he got yards after contact, which is big for us.”

Fellow sophomore running back Nate Frazier finished the win just ahead of Bowens in the ground game, logging 69 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

While Frazier had a solid day, aside from one fumble, he was quick to compliment his teammate.

“It’s very cool to see Chauncey go out there and score,” Frazier said. I know how hard he works. I know how hard he runs the ball in practice, so I’m not surprised at all. I’m happy for him.”

Bowens has taken a massive stride since his freshman year in a resevere rolse, which has been noticable since the spring. In two games so far, he’s racked up a total 89 yards and two scores on 16 carries.

The hope now is that he can keep it up while Georgia prepares for its much tougher stretch against SEC opponents, starting with a road match next week against the Tennessee Volunteers.
