The Buffalo Bills pulled off a victory after finding themselves down 15 points late in the contest. A game-winning drive by Josh Allen was capped off with a 27-yard field goal from newly acquired Matt Prater. It was an incredible farewell to Highmark Stadium. This was the last home opener before the team moves into its new stadium in 2026.

However, despite all the positivity surrounding Buffalo, we need to point out one area that ESPN specifically got all wrong on this team and the firepower that they have on offense.

Before the season began, Josh Palmer was listed as an “uninspiring choice” in an article that was listing all the NFL teams and their offseason additions. For an “uninspiring choice,” Palmer showed up in big moments for the Bills, including a 32-yard pass that put the team in a perfect position to win the game.

“Buffalo’s ‘big’ move at receiver was signing Palmer in free agency. Palmer is an uninspiring choice given his 1.6 yards per route run last season (and failure to ever reach 1.9 yards per route run in a season) despite playing with Justin Herbert in Los Angeles. When the Bills didn’t draft a wide receiver until the seventh round, GM Brandon Beane took issue with the criticism.” – Seth Walder, ESPN

Josh Palmer delivered in a big moment for the Buffalo Bills

Hindsight is always 20/20, and although it was just one game, Palmer came up huge for the Buffalo Bills, and perhaps the last thing the fan base is thinking is that he’s an “uninspiring choice.”

Outside of his catch late in the fourth quarter, Palmer showcased that he can be a reliable weapon for Allen in this offense. He finished the game against the Ravens with five receptions on nine targets for 61 yards.

Palmer had spent the first four seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers before ultimately being signed by Buffalo. In his first four seasons, he’s totaled 182 receptions for 2,287 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Allen didn’t play a single snap in the preseason, and Week 1 can always be difficult to dissect, but in one performance, the connection between the pair was on full display throughout the contest.

If that was “uninspiring,” then we can’t wait to see more of it in the weeks to come.
