Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s latest injury update on WR Xavier Worthy’s shoulder puts two major concerns to rest
Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid has the latest updates on WR Xavier Worthy’s shoulder injury.
The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off their practice week for their Week 2 Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Speaking to reporters ahead of practice, Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave the latest updates on the injury situation, most notably touching on the status of Xavier Worthy and rookie WR Jalen Royals.
“(Jalen Royals), Xavier Worthy, so those two won’t practice today, both are doing better. They’re working on it and making progress, but not ready to go today.”
Worthy, of course, suffered a dislocated shoulder in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers. As for the options regarding Worthy’s injury and recovery, the team appears content to let it heal on its own for now.
“Is surgery under consideration for Xavier (Worthy)?” a reporter asked.
“No, not right now,” Reid said.
Similarly, Reid was asked whether a short-term IR stay was under consideration.
“I mean, we’re… he’s just rehabbing here,” Reid said.
Could he be back on the field in less than the four weeks a short-term IR stay would require? The answers from Reid suggest the team does not believe this injury will result in a long-term absence.
Chiefs WR Jalen Royals’ outlook for Week 2 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles
Royals has been dealing with knee tendinitis since May. He missed the Week 1 game against the Chargers, but could he possibly make his NFL debut in Week 2? Reid didn’t sound too optimistic about that, given the current state of things.
“Yeah, probably not,” Reid said of Royals’ Week 2 availability. “It’d be a stretch.”
If Royals can’t go, that’d put the Chiefs down three receivers for Week 2, with Rashee Rice on the reserve/suspended list for five more weeks.
An NBA Freudian slip for Chiefs HC Andy Reid
A funny moment to start this media availability from Big Red. He accidentally referred to Royals as former NBA star turned broadcaster Jalen Rose.
“Jalen Rose… Royals, excuse me,” Reid said, met with laughter from Chiefs beat reporters. “Jalen Rose. Jump shot.”
