Aaron Rodgers sends a message to Steelers fans who think the sky is falling after their concerning loss in Week 2
He’s making a clear distinction.
There is no league quite like the NFL. A sport prone to Monday morning overreaction like no other, the ride-or-die nature of the sport produces a ton of highs for fans and a ton of lows.
And that’s what makes NFL football so special. You get 17 days a year to prove you are a competent team. So when you show the opposite, the media will make a story out of it, and fans will make a fuss about it. But for Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers, he’s not worried. He wants everyone to take a deep breath.
“It’s Week 2. Come on now. Come on,” Rodgers told the media after the game when asked if he’s frustrated. “It’s Week 2. I mean, like it’s good for us. Last week probably there were some people who were feeling pretty good because everybody outside the building is talking about how great we were on offense and 34 points. That’s the league. You can’t ride the highs or ride the lows, you know, you gotta refocus every single week and be a professional.”
Aaron Rodgers not sweating loss, takes accountability
Look, Rodgers was the least of the Steelers’ problems on Sunday. A week after willing the team to victory with a vintage performance, he wasn’t as sharp, but Rodgers had the team in the game until Kaleb Johnson and his defense took them out of it.
“I look at myself first and if we have a field goal, I probably wasn’t effective enough in a situation,” added Rodgers after the game. “But I feel like we had a good couple of drives, defense is playing good in the first half, and we just came out and couldn’t do a whole lot in the third quarter. Obviously, the play that took a lot of points off the board was the interception there on the three-yard line or whatever.”
Even that interception wasn’t Rodgers’ fault. The pass was dropped by Calvin Austin III, though it was intended for Pat Freiermuth. That pass, if completed, certainly creates a different outcome in the game.
So in the end, I see what Rodgers is saying. And honestly, from an offensive standpoint, I would just say flush it and get ready for the New England Patriots. But for the defense, Mike Tomlin and DC Teryl Austin have a lot to figure out.
