A Tennessee Vols defender went viral this past weekend for his reaction to UT’s gut-wrenching 44-41 overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
Vols senior defensive lineman Tyre West was visibly emotional as he walked off the field at Neyland Stadium after the loss to the Bulldogs.
West, who is from Tifton, GA, recorded seven tackles in the loss.
That’s tough to watch — you can certainly see the hurt in West’s eyes.
The Georgia game was personal for Tennessee defensive lineman Tyre West
The Georgia game was personal for West, which is what likely led to the emotional reaction that we saw from the former four-star recruit.
West was committed to Georgia as a high school player, but he was “cut loose” just before the start of the early signing period during the 2022 recruiting cycle.
“How motivated is a guy like Tyre West, who was committed to Georgia for over a year — four years ago — and Georgia cut him loose,” noted VolQuest’s Austin Price last week during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone. “He ended up at Tennessee. This is his last go-around against the Bulldogs.”
Unless West is awarded an additional year of eligibility (which is not something we anticipate being on the table), that was the Georgia native’s last chance to knock off the Bulldogs.
After coming so close but falling short, it’s easy to see why West was emotional on Saturday.

Hyatt barely played last season after showing promise as a rookie in 2023. The former Vol entered the 2025 season on […]
