The Buffalo Bills are set for action against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 of the NFL regular season in a divisional showdown on Thursday Night Football.

Ahead of the contest, Sean McDermott spoke to the media, and the Bills released their injury report heading into the matchup. Needless to say, fans are a little concerned, especially with the update given by the head coach surrounding Matt Milano and his future availability.

“No, don’t have much,” McDermott said. “We’ll see, hopefully we can get him back, we’ll see what it looks like as we head into tomorrow here.”

McDermott mentioned the team could see Milano back on the practice field as soon as Wednesday, but they haven’t ruled out a long-term injury designation for him. Just one word from the head coach was all it took.

“No,” McDermott said firmly.

Observations from injury report

The talk of the town will surely be that of Milano’s availability with the team. The former All-Pro has struggled to stay on the field, and another pectoral injury has the Bills Mafia more than a little concerned about his availability long-term. Dating back to 2019, Milano has missed 29 total games with hamstring, pectoral, abdomen, knee, leg, and bicep injuries.

If Milano were to miss time, expect players like Dorian Williams or Joe Andreessen to get increased reps. Perhaps even Shaq Thompson could see an increased role during the matchup, but that’s if he progresses well through the next few days, as he’s also dealing with an injury of his own.

It’s not just Milano that’s dealing with an injury that could keep him out of the contest, as Ed Oliver is still dealing with his reported multi-week injury, and his timetable to return is unclear. Both players were unable to practice in any capacity on Tuesday, leading up to their Thursday Night Football showdown.

It wasn’t all bad news from One Bills Drive, though, as a couple of other key playmakers are trending in the right direction at the perfect time. Taron Johnson, Cam Lewis, and Thompson were all limited but were able to participate in some capacity.

Not much time from now until the Thursday Night showdown, we’ll keep you updated throughout the week as more information becomes available.
