UAB head coach Trent Dilfer went viral on Saturday — just moments before kicking off against the Tennessee Vols — for an odd decision he made on the sideline.
Dilfer, who is in his third season as the head coach at UAB, was spotted taking photos with his phone, and he appeared to send a text message right before the game kicked off.
Dilfer is a Super Bowl champion. He spent over a decade as a player in the NFL. I wouldn’t think the moment would be too big for a guy who played with Ray Lewis, but I’ve never seen that from a head coach before. If you’re in awe of the stadium right before game time, it’s probably not a good sign for your team’s chances.
Tennessee Vols get off to a quick start against UAB
Tennessee didn’t waste any time taking it to UAB, scoring a touchdown on a 75-yard drive to open the game.
The Vols followed up that drive with another touchdown drive, which featured a deep touchdown pass from Joey Aguilar to Mike Matthews.
One can’t help but wonder if Dilfer was filming that play with his phone, too.
