49ers to receive a major boost just days after losing Nick Bosa ahead of Week 4 matchup against Jacksonville Jaguars
The 49ers will be thrilled to see the return of their biggest investment.
If you told a San Francisco 49ers fan that they would be 3-0 heading into Week 4 despite missing their starting quarterback for two weeks, they would have been thrilled. But then came the biggest blow of all. The loss of arguably the best player in the Bay, Nick Bosa.
His second ACL tear, Bosa is slated to miss the rest of the season, but the news isn’t all bad out of San Francisco.
Because now, Brock Purdy is off the injury report and ready to go for Week 4.
Brock Purdy to start against Jaguars in Week 4
“This boost for San Fran’s offense cannot go overlooked. While Mac Jones played well enough in place of Purdy, there’s a clear amount of trust that Kyle Shanahan has in his starter. For the 49ers this weekend, both of their top wide receivers in Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall are questionable. If they’re without one or both of those guys, it would have seriously limited Jones’ potential through the air.”
“I trust Purdy a notable amount more than the backup when it comes to distributing to these depth playmakers. Not to mention, Demarcus Robinson will be back for the 49ers, and I won’t be shocked if Purdy gets him involved early and often. All in all, this is good news for San Francisco, and they got it without rushing Purdy back or losing a couple of winnable matchups without his services.”

Piggybacking off of Adam’s point, Mac Jones played well enough to win his two starts, but if the dropoff between Purdy and Jones wasn’t noticeable through two weeks, it would have been sooner or later.
The stats are relatively similar, but an underrated portion of Purdy’s game is that he can ad-lib. He’s not afraid to play out of structure and throw a risky pass. He has a little backyard gunslinger to him, even if he plays with capital A anticipation.
So with Bosa down, and so many injuries on offense. I’m sure San Francisco is happy to have their starter back under center.
