Eagles just made the Tush Push more unstoppable than ever, and the rest of the NFL is going to hate it
Sick!
The Philadelphia Eagles appeared to take those complaining about the Tush Push personally.
During Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Eagles faced third-and-one from the Bucs’ six-yard line late in the third quarter, which meant a Tush Push was coming.
Naturally, Philly lined up to run its famous play, but what came next shocked everyone.
Instead of quarterback Jalen Hurts getting his tush pushed for a first down, he handed the ball off to running back Saquon Barkley, who took it to the house for a six-yard touchdown.
Barkley’s touchdown gave the Birds a 31-13 lead over Tampa Bay late in the third quarter.
The Tush Push is here to stay, for now
The Tush Push ban talk has started up again in recent weeks, but it doesn’t look like those against it will end up getting their way anytime soon.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there is no guarantee that another Tush Push vote will occur across the NFL at least next offseason.
“League sources told ESPN that there are no assurances that the tush push issue will be brought up for conversation or a vote by the NFL this offseason,” Schefter wrote in an insider article last week. “One source told ESPN that, after the hotly contested conversation the play raised last offseason and the emotions it aroused, he believes the issue needs to be tabled for a year before it could be raised again.”
The proposal to ban the Tush Push received 22 votes this past offseason, falling two votes short of the required number.
Per Schefter, a new proposal to ban the play would need even more votes next time around.
“One source told ESPN that he didn’t know whether that could or would happen, adding that there has been no movement to make it happen, at least this early in the year,” Schefter wrote.
Until the ban is implemented, the rest of the NFL will have to continue figuring out how to stop it, and now, whether or not Philly will fake it.
