The Bills Mafia was enjoying “Mr. Brightside” late into the contest against the New Orleans Saints as the Bills remained undefeated on the season.

However, it’s what happened after the game that gave Buffalo perhaps an even bigger win, and it should terrify the rest of the league.

With the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts both losing their matchups, the Bills sit atop the AFC and are the only unbeaten team in the conference. What’s more, Buffalo is doing all of that while arguably not even playing its best football.

While there was plenty to point out to improve moving forward, a win in the NFL is never guaranteed, and the Saints fought until the end. Head coach Sean McDermott spoke to the media after the game, sharing a special moment between him and quarterback Josh Allen that fueled the team to victory. Allen put the team on his back and was instrumental once again.

Defense remains an issue for Buffalo

While still perfect on the season, it doesn’t mean that the Bills aren’t without their faults.

Costly penalties, missed tackles, and a failure to pressure the Saints’ quarterback, Spencer Rattler, were issues throughout the game. However, the team locked in and had a few big defensive stops, which helped seal the victory. McDermott spoke earlier in the week about the importance of generating pressure up front, and in the Saints’ final series, the defensive front came alive, bringing down Rattler twice, with defensive end Joey Bosa getting another forced fumble.

The Saints ran all over the Bills during the contest, an area that the team must clean up as the season progresses.

However, one big point is how the team will be bringing in reinforcements sooner rather than later. For the contest, linebacker Matt Milano and defensive tackle Ed Oliver were ruled out, and their absence was felt during the contest. It’s not just that, though, as the team is getting back two critical pieces after the Saints game.

Defensive linemen Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi are set to return to the team soon, with first-round pick Maxwell Hairston eligible to return to practice off injured reserve as early as Monday. Put plainly, the Bills’ defense could look a whole lot different just a few weeks from now.

At the end of the day, Buffalo continues to find ways to win and sits atop the division and its conference heading into a matchup against the Patriots. There’s plenty to be excited about for the beloved fan base, and it’s more than a little concerning for the rest of the league.
