Tennessee social media account trolls Mississippi State fans with a short video clip that every other SEC program can appreciate
The Vols had some full at the Bulldogs’ expense.
The Tennessee Volunteers had a heck of a weekend inside Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi on Saturday evening. The Vols spoiled the Bulldogs’ plans in a 41-34 overtime victory, both on the field and in the stands.
But the fun didn’t stop on Saturday, at least not for the official Twitter/X account of Tennessee Athletics. The account took a little jab at Mississippi State and their notorious cowbells with a short video clip that makes reference to a popular Saturday Night Live clip involving Will Ferrell.
Tennessee Athletics trolls Mississippi State on Twitter/X over their cowbells
For those who aren’t aware, the clip makes reference with the song “Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult to the old Saturday Night Live clip where actor Christopher Walken calls for “more cowbell” from Will Ferrell’s character.
The use of cowbells is something that gives just about every opposing fans a headache during their trip to Starkville, as well as former players. A long-time tradition of the school, the use of cowbells was allowed to stay by the conference despite a ban on artificial noisemakers for every other school. However, the use of the cowbells is supposed to stop when the offense is over the ball (ha ha, yeah right).
It’s unlikely the tradition is going anywhere anytime soon, so all visitors can do when they leave victorious is give it back to them in a fun way, just like Tennessee did.
