The New York Giants fan base is ecstatic after the debut of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. His solid performance in his first game against one of the NFL’s best defenses has provided a beacon of hope when it felt like there were no reasons to be optimistic.

On Monday, when speaking with the media, Giants head coach Brian Daboll dug deep into what contributed to Dart’s hot start to his career.

“I’ve said this before, he’s got good instincts. It’s something that’s hard to coach,” Daboll told reporters, “The good ones usually have it and I think that, whether it’s preseason games or this game, he’s demonstrated some of that.”

A driving force behind the Giants’ victory over the Los Angeles Chargers was the natural playmaking ability that Dart displayed. Despite many offensive limitations, including the loss of his top target, Malik Nabers, Dart remained poised and consistent. Daboll attributed that to Dart’s preparation and communication.

“You meet with these guys quite frequently and I think it’s important, probably the most important thing that the quarterback can freely express things that he likes and doesn’t like,” Daboll stated, “You try to stay away from the things that they don’t like and give them the things that they like so they feel comfortable.”

Daboll’s tone and energy since transitioning to Dart have been noticeably different. While he appreciated the veteran leadership of Russell Wilson, it’s apparent that Daboll is ecstatic with the opportunity to build the current team around Dart. Since the game ended yesterday, he’s been nonstop speaking glowingly of the rookie signal caller.

“Our relationship, we talk often throughout the whole entire day, seven days a week about things,” Daboll told the media, “I really respect him, the way he sees the game and how he competes.”

Daboll has continuously discussed the deep relationship he and Dart have quickly developed. Considering he was forced to work with Daniel Jones when he first took the job, the relationship he has with Dart may help turn the franchise around.

“I think we have a very good relationship outside the building, inside the building, when we’re
talking about football,” Daboll told reporters, “I think he’s a unique guy in terms of being able to build relationships amongst his teammates and other people in the building. A lot of people have a lot of trust in him.”

The Giants now shift their focus to a winnable game in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. If the Giants can improve to 2-3, there’s a legitimate opportunity to rebound significantly from their 0-3 start to the season.
