Bills’ loss to the Patriots made even worse with devastating injury report from Sean McDermott
Not an ideal start to the week for the Buffalo Bills.
The Buffalo Bills are coming off a heartbreaking Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots. During the contest, the team was a little banged up as linebacker Matt Milano aggravated his pectoral injury, sidelining him for the second half of the contest.
Ahead of the game against the Patriots, the team once again ruled out defensive tackle Ed Oliver, along with both linebacker Dorian Williams and cornerback Dorian Strong. Head coach Sean McDermott opened his media availability on Monday with a worrying update on a handful of players for the upcoming matchup.
“I’ll give you the information I have on the injury report heading into this week here at least as we know it today,” McDermott said. “Ed Oliver, we are hopeful. We’ll see where that goes this week. Matt Milano is week to week; he tweaked that pec in the game yesterday, so he’ll be week to week.
“T.J. Sanders, not ruling him out, but we’ll see where it goes. Going to take it one day at a time here, so we’re still working through it. Dorian Williams is improving; he’s day to day, and we’ll see how things go over the next couple of days with him. Connor McGovern hurt his hand during the game yesterday. Last night, we’ll be hopeful that he can go this week.”
Milano and Strong will miss some time
Milano has missed quite some time over the past few seasons, something that McDermott opened up to the media about. A frustrating update for a player who just wants to be on the football field to compete.
“Yeah, that’s what it’s been from the standpoint of his injuries from the past two to three years, as you mentioned, Jay,” McDermott said. “I don’t want that for him; nobody wants that for him and nobody works harder than Matt Milano to stay healthy. Right now, it’s going to be a next man up for this week and we’ll take it one day and apparently now one week at a time and see how it goes.”
For Strong, who was placed on injured reserve, McDermott hasn’t ruled out a long-term injury designation for the rookie cornerback. It’s a devastating update as the Buffalo cornerback room has been ravaged by injuries.
“Dorian Strong, as you guys know, was placed on injured reserve this past Saturday. He’s going to see a specialist. At this point, no decisions have been made on the guys that are currently on IR to open their window.”
With no pass breakups at all recorded by the defensive backfield, it gives fans cause for concern about the success of this unit in particular. Only defensive end A.J. Epenesa was credited with a pass breakup in the loss to the Patriots. McDermott didn’t do much to ease the nerves of fans with Strong’s status.
“Yeah, I don’t know much other than I don’t think anything at this point can be ruled out, we’ll see where it goes,” McDermott said.
Josh Allen and Dalton Kincaid will be fine
Quarterback Josh Allen was seen limping after the game, which is more than a little worrying for the Bills Mafia. Luckily, McDermott shut down any notion that Allen was anything other than just a little banged up from the contest, not a serious injury. The same sentiment was shared about tight end Dalton Kincaid, who was also limping after the game.
“No, just sore overall. As you saw, he took some shots there; he plays extremely hard. Just sore overall at this point.” McDermott said. On Kincaid, “Yeah, he’s sore as well. Just dealing with some overall body soreness right now, we’ll see where that goes,” McDermott added.
McDermott’s message was clear — next man up. Buffalo will need to lean on that mentality as they navigate another week filled with questions about player health and availability.
