2027 five-star recruit confirms suspicion about the role that Tennessee Vol fans play in the recruiting process
UT fans help move the needle in recruiting.
There are few environments in all of college football that can match what a gameday experience in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee can offer. Vol fans flood the town from all reaches of the state and turn campus into a Big Orange spectacle on Saturdays. That’s felt from the early morning tailgates through the Vol Walk and packed Stadium to the flood of Power T car flags flying as fans head out of town on I-40 on Sunday morning.
The passion of Vol fans is one aspect of what makes a gameday experience at Tennessee special, and that trait of the program hasn’t been lost on some notable recruits who come visit on gamedays.
One of those players who took notice of that atmosphere is elite 2027 5-star OL recruit Kennedy Brown, who was in town for a visit for the Georgia game. Brown mentioned the atmosphere created by the fans as one of the draws for him to the Tennessee program.
Brown says the environment “made a very large impression”
Brown told Sam Spiegelman of On3 Sports/Rivals that the environment that Tennessee fans created for the Georgia game – which was the annual “Checker Neyland” event – left a mark on him, as well as how the Vols nearly pulled off the upset against the Georgia Bulldogs.
“It made a very large impression,” Brown said of his visit to Knoxville. “I was surprised when I went over there. It was amazing and they almost beat Georgia. It set the tone for the whole season.” He also said of Vol fans that “they do not stop cheering.”
Brown is a major target for Tennessee and the rest of the country. An On3/Rivals industry five-star player, he’s the #5 overall player, #2 offensive tackle, and #2 player in the state of Texas for the 2027 cycle. He holds offers from just about every notable program in the country, but Tennessee, Texas A&M, Clemson, Nebraska, and Ohio State appear to have his attention at this point.
Vol fans clearly make a difference with the raucous environment they create on gameday, and it’s been a big reason why Tennessee has become a house of horrors again for just about every program not named Georgia. But it’s also become clear that it’s a big selling point for some potential difference-making recruits that could help take the program to the next level.
We live in the new world of NIL, but where offers are similar, the elite gameday experience of Neyland Stadium could help tip the scales in favor of Tennessee.
