One of the Tennessee Vols’ newer traditions that (most) fans seem to enjoy is when the team wears black uniforms once a year.
Tennessee has been wearing the black uniforms once a year since Josh Heupel took over in 2021 (though former Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt initially put the plan for black uniforms in motion).
The 2021 dark mode uniforms featured a white helmet with black outlines.
Tennessee has worn black helmets in subsequent years along with the black uniforms.
When will the Tennessee Vols wear black uniforms in 2025?
While discussing the recruitment of 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges — the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee — during an appearance on WNML on Wednesday, VolQuest’s Austin Price noted that Tennessee is “slated” to wear their black uniforms on November 1 at home against the Oklahoma Sooners.
“I feel like Tennessee has a lot of momentum in his recruitment,” said Price. “He and his family will be here this weekend, and I also expect him to potentially return for the Oklahoma game in early November. That’s when Tennessee is slated to go dark mode. So yes, Tennessee is very much in the thick of it (with Gabriel Georges).
It should be an electric environment when the Sooners come to Neyland Stadium on November 1.
