Thursday Night Football preview: Giants host Eagles in NFC East showdown
The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles travel to New York to take on the Giants to kick off Week 6 on Thursday Night Football. Philadelphia is coming off its first loss of the season, falling to the Denver Broncos 21-17.
After coming off an upset win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, the Giants took a step backward losing to the New Orleans Saints last week. Let’s take a look at the current state of each team heading into this NFC East showdown.
Eagles have been playing with fire: Much like the previous Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in 2024, Philadelphia has been narrowly escaping games with wins up until last week’s loss to Denver. All four of the Eagles’ victories this season have come by just one possession, and they have been outgained in total yards in every matchup.
Philadelphia down a starter, but gets another back vs. Giants: The Eagles will be without starting left guard Landon Dickerson on Thursday night, but starting linebacker Nakobe Dean is set to make his season debut after recovering from a knee injury that he sustained during last year’s postseason.
Saquon Barkley ailing: The Eagles star running back is expected to play against his former team on Thursday, but is dealing with knee soreness.
Latest on A.J. Brown drama: Philadelphia’s top wide receiver has been unhappy with his production output so far this season, but coach Nick Sirianni said he recently had a positive meeting with Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Patience running thin with Brian Daboll: With the Giants off to a 1-4 start, our Joe DeLeone believes it’s time for the team to move on from Daboll.
DT Darius Alexander emerging: The 2025 third-round draft pick is developing into a key piece of New York’s defense.
Jaxson Dart compares himself to Jalen Hurts: The Giants’ rookie QB expressed his admiration for Hurts’ game. Dart’s collegiate career is very similar to Hurts’, and his development as an NFL QB could also mirror Hurts’.
Giants’ passing game takes another major blow: After losing No. 1 WR Malik Nabers for the season, New York will be without WR Darius Slayton in Thursday night’s game against the Eagles as he nurses a hamstring injury.
Browns trade QB Joe Flacco to Bengals: Everything we know

After losing all three of his starts and throwing eight interceptions in four games, Jake Browning is being immediately benched for Flacco, despite Flacco just arriving to Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Compensation: The Bengals acquired Flacco and a sixth-round draft pick from the Browns for fifth-round draft pick.
Browns going all-in on young QBs: Dillon Gabriel took over the Browns’ starting QB job last week, and is now their guy moving forward with Flacco gone. Shedeur Sanders will move up to No. 2 QB.
Joe Burrow unknowingly predicts the future: After defeating Cleveland in Week 1, cameras caught Burrow telling Flacco that he was looking forward to watching him this year. Burrow will now see Flacco up close and personal as a teammate.
