Injuries continue to wreak havoc at One Bills Drive. Ahead of practice on Thursday, head coach Sean McDermott said defensive tackle T.J. Sanders and linebacker Matt Milano would be unable to practice, and their status remains unclear for the Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

It didn’t end there. McDermott said offensive lineman Dion Dawkins, linebacker Dorian Williams, and defensive tackle Ed Oliver would all be limited. Whenever you see Dawkins, a primary protector for quarterback Josh Allen, and one of the best at his position across the league, down with an injury, it gives cause for concern. When asked about Dawkins’ injury, McDermott was blunt.

“Hand,” McDermott said.

Bills not opening 21-day practice window for players on injured reserve

McDermott also gave a worrying update on kicker Tyler Bass and rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston. Before fielding a question, McDermott said the team would not be activating them or offensive lineman Tylan Grable to start their 21-day practice window from the injured reserve.

To add insult to injury, McDermott did nothing to ease the minds of Bills Mafia with his comments about their future availability. McDermott was asked if they could potentially be out for the entire season, and his answer was less than desirable.

“We’ll see,” McDermott said. “I’m just going off the medical team’s messaging to me, and it’s really not much of a change at this point. Both are heading in the right direction.”

None of the players has seen the field in 2025, and Hairston’s absence is especially felt in the defensive backfield. Quarterback Drake Maye carved up Buffalo in the loss to the New England Patriots, and the fans are eager to see what the first-round pick can do on the field.

Some good news for Buffalo, despite McDermott’s messaging

While Dawkins’ availability was limited, along with Oliver, it is a step in the right direction for Oliver. He was a one-man wrecking crew in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, and having him in the interior of the defensive line will go a long way toward the team having success.

All that’s left to do is wait as the team progresses through the week with these injuries. For Bass, Grable, and Hairston, the fan base might have to wait even longer to see them back on the field.
