Myles Garrett’s confession after the loss to the Steelers adds another element of bad to this season for the Browns
Not a promising look for the Browns coming out of Week 6.
The Cleveland Browns’ biggest issue this past offseason was the Myles Garrett situation. Shortly after the 2024 season ended, Garrett requested a trade from Cleveland, citing his desire to win.
The Browns never wavered on their stance and made it clear they had no intention of trading him. The situation was ultimately resolved when the team signed Garrett to a massive extension worth an average of $40 million per season.
Since then, however, the Browns have won just one game — and their star pass rusher is once again openly frustrated.
Myles Garrett gets real after the loss to the Steelers
“It is frustrating. To lose the same way every time, it’s frustrating as hell,” Garrett said after Cleveland’s 23-9 loss to the Steelers in Week 6.
Cleveland failed to sack Aaron Rodgers once on Sunday, as he completed 21 of 30 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. The Browns’ defense surrendered 23 points and 335 total yards in the defeat. In his ninth season with the team, Garrett has four sacks through five games and remains on pace for double-digit sacks for the eighth consecutive year.
Still, with the team’s ongoing struggles, Garrett admits it’s becoming harder to stay motivated — much like former Browns great Joe Thomas once described late in his career.
“Yep,” Garrett said when asked if that was the case.
This rough start to the season — against a difficult schedule — was always going to make or break the Browns. It certainly hasn’t made them, and it’s starting to look like it’s breaking them. Cleveland’s offense continues to hold the team back, managing just 248 total yards in the loss. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel made his second start and completed 52 passes for only 221 yards against Pittsburgh.
Cleveland’s scoring woes persist, as it failed again to reach the 20-point mark. The Browns are averaging just 14.6 points per game, ranking 31st in the NFL. Garrett’s frustration might ease if the Browns can find some success against a softer stretch of their schedule — at least, that’s the hope — but for now, it’s hard to see much offensive improvement coming from this group.
