Chiefs TE Travis Kelce discusses how team has gotten back on track, future outlook with Rashee Rice set to return
Things are on the up and up in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense is among the hottest units in the NFL, and it led the team to a 30-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.
Kansas City has put up 95 points over its last three games. That has included 12 touchdowns, with eight of them coming through the air. As usual, Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has been a big part of the action. While joining Sportscenter after the game, Kelce discussed how K.C. has gotten back on track after an 0-2 start.
Travis Kelce credits Chiefs HC Andy Reid for turnaround
“The thing is, in this building, man, you get challenged every single week,” Kelce said. “You don’t really pay attention to the record. You don’t pay attention to who you got next. It’s all based on the now. And I think coach Reid does a great job of challenging us week-in and week-out to get ready for that opponent.”
Kelce led all Chiefs pass catchers in receptions (six) and receiving yards (78) against Detroit, both season-highs for the veteran. He is on pace for 79 catches for 910 yards and six touchdowns in 2025. However, he may see a bit of a decrease in volume now that wide receiver Rashee Rice is set to return this week from suspension. Kelce is just fine with that, as he went on to talk about how K.C.’s offense can be even better with Rice back.
Travis Kelce ecstatic for what Chiefs offense will be with WR Rashee Rice back
“I’m just excited to get my guy Rashee back in the building,” Kelce said. “What he means as a player, as a person, and to this community, man, we missed having him out here on the field for the first couple games this year, but I’m excited to get him back out there. If we’re putting up 30 balls without him out there, it’s going to get us going to get rocking and rolling when he gets back.”
With how great the Chiefs’ offense has been over the last few weeks without Rice, it’s a scary thought for the rest of the league what it will be like with him. Like Kelce, Rice does a great job of getting open in soft spots of the defense, and is lethal after the catch. The two will be playing together for the first time since Week 4 of the 2024 season.
