Lions make multiple roster moves ahead of Buccaneers matchup, Alim McNeill is back, but the move they didn’t make will get plenty of attention
The Detroit Lions are just a few hours from taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. Before they play, they’ve made some roster moves to get ready for the game. Here’s what they did:
Activated Alim McNeill
You knew it was coming, but now it’s here. McNeill is back on the 53-man roster, and he’s playing Monday night against the Bucs. This will be a huge addition for a team that has already been rushing the passer quite well. McNeill is one of the best interior pass rushers in the game.
Released LB Ty Summers
The Lions had to open a spot for McNeill, so they had to let Summers go. We haven’t seen much of Summers this season. He was signed to the 53-man roster mostly as a special teams replacement for Zach Cunningham. Now that he’s back, Summers had to go. I would fully expect the Lions to try to get him back.
Elevated Tre Flowers, Loren Strickland from practice squad
Looks like we won’t see Kendall Fuller’s Lions debut on Monday night. Some Lions fans will hate that, but he just got here last week, and the Lions seem to want to take their time. It makes sense. Flowers has been here for three weeks and has a better understanding of the playbook.
Strickland is coming up because the Lions need to get as many safeties as they can on the roster with Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch missing this game. It’s all going to be on the shoulders of Thomas Harper, Jammie Robinson, and Strickland.
Signed Arthur Maulet to the 53-man roster
I wouldn’t expect Maulet to leave the 53-man roster at any point this season. He’s probably going to start in the slot on Monday night, and he’ll probably be in that role right after the bye week against the Vikings. He has a lot of experience in this league at that position. When everyone is back and healthy, he’ll be a great depth piece.
