Jared Goff said the thing the world needs to hear after Lions win over Buccaneers
JG talking that Cash Money stuff
If you’ve followed my career covering the Detroit Lions for the last 11 seasons, then you know that the thing I say the most is that quarterback wins are not a real stat. It’s because they just aren’t. Not for anyone. Not Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, nobody. I don’t care if Mahomes had a super cool run or a no-look pass. He can’t do anything without a line blocking, receivers catching, a defense, and special teams.
I plain loathe the idea that 40-plus guys hit the field on game day and only one gets the credit for it. That’s why it was so refreshing after the Lions’ 24-9 win over the Buccaneers when Jared Goff agreed with that.
Jared Goff believes quarterback wins are not a real stat
“Wins get attributed as a quarterback stat a lot, but it’s really a team stat, Goff said.
Yes! Someone get this guy on a plane to England so that he can be knighted by Her Majesty the Queen. Throw a parade for him, even if it’s just down my street. I don’t care. I’ll make a float for this. Ryan Gosling will play him in the movie about this moment that shook up the sports world.
In reality, everyone will ignore it because it’s the one stat that so many football fans and media members hold onto and spout a lot. It is what it is.
It’s safe to say that while Goff didn’t have his worst game, he didn’t go out and win this thing on his own either. Jahmyr Gibbs had a killer game, and Amon-Ra St. Brown chipped in a lot, too. Plus, that defense went out there and held the Bucs to just nine points. Goff helped win this game, but sadly, he’ll be the only one credited.
