The Tennessee Vols are looking to take advantage of the LSU Tigers’ decision to fire Brian Kelly
The Tennessee Vols are looking to take advantage of the LSU Tigers’ decision to fire head coach Brian Kelly.
LSU parted ways with Kelly on Sunday, a day after the Tigers’ 49-25 blowout loss in a home night game to the Texas A&M Aggies.
Kelly finished his career at LSU with a 34-14 record. He wasn’t a disaster, but he could never get LSU over the hump. Kelly is the first LSU coach since Gerry DiNardo (1995-1999) to not win a national championship in Baton Rouge.
Tennessee has interest in four-star LSU commit
With things seemingly in disarray at LSU, the Volunteers are hoping to flip a 2026 four-star Tigers commit.
Four-star cornerback Havon Finney Jr. has been committed to LSU since late April, but he’s continuing to speak with other programs.
Those conversations are expected to ramp up with LSU suddenly facing a coaching change.
Finney’s father told On3 that his son is “good right now,” but he indicated that other programs, including Tennessee, are showing interest.
“The blessing for Havon is that a lot of schools are still there for him and have relationships with him,” said Finney’s father. “He’s been able to be in that position where there’s a lot of schools that have already been keeping tabs on him and conversations with him…He’s been talking to Coach Moore at Michigan and Texas and Tennessee and some of these other schools.”
Finney, 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, from Chatsworth, CA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 10 cornerback in the nation.
