Former Tennessee Vols WR Jalin Hyatt’s time in New York has been a bust, without a doubt. The Giants took the VFL in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft on the heels of one of a breakout season for Tennessee in 2022.

However, through two and a half seasons, Hyatt’s impact has been minimal. For whatever reason, he hasn’t convinced Giants head coach Brian Daboll and his staff that he should be on the field. His usage has shrunk to the point to where he was a healthy inactive last week for New York against the Eagles.

Now, one NFL insider sees Hyatt as a name to watch in the trade market as the league’s trade deadline approaches on Nov. 4. And he could be a candidate to get the fresh start that many Tennessee fans have been hoping to see him get.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler included Jalin Hyatt as a player to keep an eye on before the trade deadline.

This is what Fowler had to say about Hyatt:

“It’s worth monitoring whether the Giants can recoup draft capital of several former picks that have not worked out. Former third-round receiver Jalin Hyatt would like a fresh start elsewhere, just as Neal does. Offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu is on injured reserve with a designation to return, and teams are always looking for offensive line help. So while the Giants might eschew the big deal — I was firmly told that the Giants are not looking to deal edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux right now — perhaps there is late-round value in a series of guys who just haven’t worked out.” – Via Jeremy Fowler, ESPN.com

Hyatt appeared in all 17 games in 2023 for New York, totaling 23 catches for 373 yards, a decent start to his NFL career. But things have gone downhill since then as far as both playing time and productivity. He had 8 catches for 62 yards in 16 games in 2024 and has just 3 catches for 17 yards in 5 games this season.

It’s not entirely clear – at least publicly – why the Giants have clearly faded Hyatt from their plans since 2023. The opportunity has been there, particularly with Malik Nabers out for the season and Darius Slayton having missed time with injury.

But what is clear is that a resurgence of Hyatt’s career isn’t going to happen with the Giants, so getting a shot elsewhere can only be a good thing for him. And if the Giants aren’t going to play him, they might as well cut their losses and get something in return as Fowler noted.

We’ll find out in the coming days if Hyatt can get a better chance somewhere else around the league.
