The Minnesota Vikings continue to receive some positive news heading into Sunday’s must-win game against the division-rival Detroit Lions. The biggest news for the Vikings has come on the injury front.

We know that Carson Wentz is now on injured reserve with the shoulder injury that he suffered against the Cleveland Browns. He gutted it out against the Los Angeles Chargers. That leaves J.J. McCarthy ready to return as the starting quarterback.

The status at quarterback wasn’t the only thing we learned about the Vikings’ injuries on Wednesday, as there were multiple players on the report with improved statuses.

Observations

  • Seeing all of Darrisaw, McCarthy, and Van Ginkel being full participants is massive. They need all three to be back and play good football, especially McCarthy, who needs the reps.
  • Oliver’s foot injury isn’t what you would call good, but it will likely keep him out of the game on Sunday. That will impact whatever running game the Vikings currently have.
  • Greenard is one to watch over the course of the week. He hurt his ankle against the Chargers, but it appeared in real time to be minor.

Observations

  • There are some really good players on here for the Lions. The most significant is Joseph, who is still dealing with a knee injury. The fact that he didn’t practice out of the bye week is a big deal.
  • Decker missing the game could be a big deal, especially if Greenard and Van Ginkel end up playing. If Decker doesn’t play, it could be a huge benefit for Brian Flores.
  • The Lions will likely get Arnold back this week, but he’s been up and down during his career, and going against the Vikings’ stable of receivers could be just what the doctor ordered for Kevin O’Connell.
