Tennessee’s Josh Elander just made a huge move that dealt the Florida Gators a body blow in the process
The Vols’ new head coach snatched away a big part of the Gators’ program on Thursday.
It appears as though new head coach Josh Elander is wasting little time in making a significant impact to the Tennessee baseball program.
The Vols’ new head coach dropped some jaws on Thursday night with the addition of interim Florida Gators head coach Chuck Jeroloman to his staff.
Tennessee hires interim head baseball coach Chuck Jeroloman away from Florida
We’ll find out when the hire is announced exactly which position Jeroloman will hold, as Brent Hubbs of VolQuest has a conflicting report to that of Kendall Rogers as to whether Jeroloman will serve as Tennessee’s recruiting coordinator. Hubbs says that Ross Kivett will handle that role.
But regardless of the role, Tennessee adds a very accomplished recruiter to Elander’s staff, who himself excelled as the Vols’ former recruiting coordinator under Tony Vitello. Jeroloman helped build the Florida rosters that have competed in Omaha and made it to the College World Series championship series in 2023. He’s an accomplished offensive guru who helped Jac Caglianone and Wyatt Langford have All-American performances in recent years.
For those wondering about a connection between the two, Elander and Jeroloman have known each other from their days back in Fort Worth 13 years ago. Elander played for TCU from 2010-12, and Jeroloman was a volunteer coach for the Horned Frogs in 2012, so they spent a year together there.
It’s also a noteworthy pull for Elander because Jeroloman is currently serving as a head coach himself with the Gators. Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan took a leave of absence from the Florida program earlier this month for personal reasons, and his timetable for a return hasn’t been made public.
In any event, the Vols’ coaching staff just got a big shot in the arm, and the Vols’ offense should be in even better hands in 2026.
