The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs are set for action in Week 9. Before we can get to the game, the NFL has some business it needs to attend to first.

Every Saturday, the NFL releases its fines for the week, focused on the previous slate of games. In the latest release, one Bills’ star is finding himself in a bit of hot water —and it will hurt his pocketbook (do people still say that?).

Defensive end Joey Bosa has been issued a fine of $12,172 for unnecessary roughness with 30 seconds remaining in the first half against the Panthers. Bills Mafia will remember he was flagged for tripping on the play, clearly frustrated with himself moments after.

This is the sixth time Bosa has been fined, totaling $174,332. The No Fun League has taken plenty from Bosa over the years. He’s been fined four times for roughing the passer and twice for verbally abusing officials. This is the talented defensive end’s first fine since 2023.

Not the first Bill to get fined this season

Bosa is one of two Bills players to get issued a fine this season. Linebacker Dorian Williams was called for unnecessary roughness and was fined $7,989 back in Week 4. Out of 2,003 total plays, there were only 10 fines given out across the league, a pretty wild statistic.

According to the league’s official website, “League staff members examine the plays identified as having potential infractions to determine whether there is cause for additional review.”

For those wondering where the money goes, the NFL also explained how it winds up using the money. An excellent cause, stemming from some awful situations.

“The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.

“Since 2011, about $4 million a year has been used to support these worthy causes.” – NFL Operations

So while Bosa’s wallet might be a little lighter this week, at least the money’s going toward a good cause. To put it into perspective, he signed a one-year, $12.6 million contract in the offseason; this is merely a few drops in the bucket. It still stinks, though.
