Bills GM Brandon Beane makes a move that could be indicative of a trade coming very soon
Brandon Beane is up to something, I just know it.
Something is brewing at One Bills Drive ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
The Buffalo Bills are reported to be buyers at the trade deadline, especially considering the recent losses of defensive tackle Ed Oliver and defensive end Michael Hoecht. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed the news that Hoecht is done for the season after suffering an Achilles injury in the team’s win against the Kansas City Chiefs.
With all of that, it looks like the team may be gearing up to make a move, and soon. All 32 teams have until 4 p.m. ET on Nov. 4 to strike any draft pick or player deals before the start of the 2026 offseason in March.
Field Yates, an NFL Draft and fantasy football analyst for ESPN, shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the Bills have restructured the contract of nickel cornerback Taron Johnson.
Buffalo Bills free up some much-needed cap space
The move creates an additional $1.75 million in salary cap space. Buffalo ranked last in the NFL before the move in terms of total cap space, needing to make a move to operate the roster as well as pull off a trade at the deadline.
According to Over the Cap, the Bills were sitting at $1,670,488 before the deal, meaning they would be somewhere in the $3.4 million range moving forward.
That extra space might not sound like much, but it could be just enough to help general manager Brandon Beane pull off a targeted move. The Bills have been linked to several positions of need, including defensive tackle, wide receiver, and another edge rusher.
A financial adjustment like this often signals that conversations are already taking place. Don’t be surprised if Buffalo is active as the deadline clock winds down.
All eyes are now on Beane and the front office, with limited time and money to maneuver.
