2026 four-star athlete Joel Wyatt committed to the Tennessee Vols in late July.

Wyatt, 6-foot-4/195 lbs from Murfreesboro, TN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 athlete in the nation and the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee. He’s also rated as the No. 48 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

The talented recruit is a versatile player who could potentially play wide receiver, defensive back, edge rusher, or linebacker at the collegiate level.

Tennessee initially recruited Wyatt as an edge rusher, but his preference is to play defensive back.

247Sports’ Tom Loy confirmed that Tennessee is going to start Wyatt at defensive back when he arrives on campus.

“247Sports has learned that Wyatt will start out on defense upon arrival in Knoxville,” wrote Loy this week. “He will begin his career at defensive back. However, depending on how things progress and how he fills out, edge rusher could be in his future.”

The Vols could certainly use an upgrade in talent in the secondary. Tennessee will hope that Wyatt can contribute early as a defensive back.
