The Philadelphia Eagles made their third trade in one week when they acquired pass rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins on Monday.

In return, the Eagles sent a 2026 third-round pick to Miami for Phillips.

While leaving your teammates is never easy, Phillips is beyond excited to go from a 2-7 team to one that is chasing another Super Bowl ring.

“I mean, it’s incredible,” Phillips told reporters on Monday, via NBC Sports. “I had no idea this was going to happen, but there’s literally no other team I’d rather play for.”

Phillips, who was drafted by Miami in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft, joins the Eagles after posting 25 total tackles and three sacks in nine games this season. He’ll have a chance to add to those numbers with Philly in need of a reliable pass rusher alongside Nakobe Dean.

“Obviously, Philly is a storied franchise, great tradition here, incredible team,” Phillips said. “I’m just excited to get in, get to work with the guys. I’m super excited. It’s going to be awesome.”

Sure, Phillips will have some catching up to do, but it definitely helps that he’ll be coached by a familiar face in Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, whom he spent some time with at Miami.

“I love Vic as a person and as a coach,” Phillips said. “I had some good success with him. Excited to get back into his system and play with the other guys on the defense too.”

Even though the Eagles could use his presence, Phillips doesn’t expect to start right away, though he vows to be ready when his number is called.

“Oh man, I’m just going to work my ass off,” he said. “I’m going to come in, be a humble worker, earn the guys’ respect, earn the fans’ respect, just come in and do everything I can to support the team. I want to be able to fly around and make plays. Yeah, literally fly around.”

We’ll see how long it takes Phillips to get adjusted before he sees a ton of action, though he has more time since the Eagles don’t play until Monday night on Nov. 10.
