Michael Hoecht is an absolute warrior.

And, he’s also the definition of a true teammate, which was on full display in the Buffalo Bills’ big win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. It was a huge matchup for the Bills, and they ultimately came out on top, but at a cost.

Hoecht tragically suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the fourth quarter. However, while the trainers told him he would need a cart to get inside, he made one thing clear: he would not be going into the locker room until the end of the game.

In that moment, all that mattered was seeing his team win, and he wanted to be a part of every second, even if it was on the sidelines. Bills head coach Sean McDermott even took notice of the defensive end’s team-first mentality.

“How about that? He wanted to see the game,” Buffalo coach Sean McDermott said of Hoecht taking a seat on the bench instead of the cart. “That’s just awesome [he wanted to stay out]. I felt terrible for him.”

Hoecht is all about football, and he just so happens to be really good at it in a very small sample size. He had been suspended for six games, and while out, he looked at Google pictures of the Carolina Panthers stadium to prepare himself for his first game. To put it plainly, he dominated with six pressures, a sack and a half, and a forced fumble.

That just makes this video that much more gut wrenching thinking about what player he could’ve been on the field. Even after suffering such a devastating injury, he stayed with his teammates to the very end. It was emotional to watch his only request: to be helped over to the defensive side of the bench.

Fortunately, Buffalo had signed him to a three-year deal, so we won’t be seeing the last of the absolute game wrecker.

Until then, rest up, and be good, do good, God bless, and go Bills.
