The Texas A&M Aggies have essentially locked up a spot in the College Football Playoff after their dominant 38-17 victory over the Missouri Tigers on Saturday. Even if they drop a game (unlikely) for the rest of the season, a 10-2 at worst record with their strength of resume will undoubtedly put them in the Playoff.

To get there, Mike Elko’s defense has been one of the best in college football, and have emphatically slammed the door shut on every team they’ve played this season. However, plenty of good defensive teams haven’t had the success the Aggies have had. I would argue that it’s the Aggies’ offense, led by offensive coordinator Collin Klein, that has been the main reason why the team is undefeated and set to make their first ever appearance in the CFP and one step closer to another SEC Championship appearance.

The numbers that the Aggies have put up on offense have been staggering so far this season, and they are potent on both the ground and through the air, representing one of the few truly balanced offenses in the country. In fact, based on what they’ve put up so far, I’m willing to say I believe they are the best offense in the SEC and perhaps in the country.

The Aggies’ elite offense has them in the CFP

Texas A&M’s well-balanced offense can hit you in a million different ways, and that’s what makes them so difficult to stop. Load up to stop the run? Marcel Reed’s game has grown significantly, and he makes plays through the air every week throwing to an elite duo in KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. Try to stop them through the air? Here comes a ground attack that averages 200 yards a game, led by a deep stable of running backs and Marcel Reed’s ability as a runner.

It’s no wonder the team is putting up the numbers they are this year, particularly on the road. Their win over Missouri was their eighth-straight game putting up over 400 yards of offense, and they have scored 38+ points in every single road game this year. They have scored at least 31 points in all but one game this season, including 49 on the LSU Tigers. In the SEC, only Tennessee is averaging more points per game, and A&M didn’t get games against East Tennessee State and UAB to boost their tally.

Reed’s dual-threat ability and improving ability as a passer should have him among the Heisman Trophy finalists, considering the offense revolves completely around what he can do. As talented as their offense is, Reed is the engine that makes the whole train go. With what their offense can do and the complementary football they can play with their elite defense and pass rush, A&M feels primed to go the distance this year as one of the best teams in the country.
