Ohio State’s win over Purdue wasn’t the only victory the Buckeyes had over the weekend with latest recruiting news
It was a winning weekend all around for Ohio State.
It was a good weekend overall for the Ohio State Buckeyes, as the No. 1 team in the nation cruised to a win over the Purdue Boilermakers and improved to 9-0 on the season.
Ohio State didn’t let a scoreless first quarter stop it from pulling away for a 34-10 victory over the Boilermakers on Saturday. Anytime you can grab a road win in the Big Ten, you’ll feel good — and that’s exactly what the Buckeyes did.
Ohio State has been on a recruiting heater, just as many expected to close out this cycle. It’s prime flip season in recruiting, and the Buckeyes just completed another one.
Buckeyes add to their 2026 class after beating Purdue
Ohio State picked up commitment No. 24 a day after defeating Purdue when it flipped a former Colorado Buffaloes commit. 2026 four-star defensive lineman Emanuel Ruffin chose the Buckeyes over the Missouri Tigers on Sunday, five days after decommitting from Deion Sanders’ Colorado program. Ruffin was a player the Buckeyes were involved with before his initial commitment to Colorado in September, and he took an official visit to Columbus in June.
Ruffin is rated as the No. 26 defensive lineman in the class of 2026 and the No. 197 overall player, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The newest Buckeye comes from Bessemer, Alabama, where he’s ranked as the No. 12 player in the state.
It’s the second year in a row that Ohio State has landed a top prospect from talent-rich Alabama — last year it was pass rusher Zion Grady. Ruffin, a 6-4, 295-pound force on the defensive line, is capable of stopping the run and generating pressure from the interior.
Adding Ruffin gives the Buckeyes their highest-rated interior defensive lineman in the 2026 class. Ohio State already has Damari Simeon, Cameron Brickle, and Jamir Perez — all three-star prospects — committed at the position. Going into SEC country to land Ruffin over multiple major programs that offered him is a big win for the Buckeyes. Ohio State is clearly focused on adding an abundance of talent to the defensive tackle room in this class.
Any weekend that includes a win on the field and on the recruiting trail is a job well done. Ohio State isn’t finished yet, though, as it’s still looking to add several more players to its 2026 class. On the field, next up is a night game in Columbus against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday.
