Myles Garrett took a firm stand after the Cleveland Browns were embarrassed out of the bye week against the New York Jets
Cleveland is 2-7 and Week 10 was one they needed to have.
The Cleveland Browns allowed just 10 points on defense against the New York Jets on Sunday but still lost by a score of 24-20 due to the major issues with their special teams. Cleveland allowed a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown. The offense may have scored 20 points for just the second time this season but it didn’t matter in the end.
Cleveland allowed only 169 yards to New York and QB Justin Fields was just 6-of-11 passing for 54 yards and a touchdown. Coming away from the game, the Browns’ most important player has a clear message for his teammates.
Myles Garrett gives firm direction for the Browns going forward after loss to Jets
“I’m going to make sure there’s no quit in this team,” Garrett said after the game. “I haven’t seen it before and it’s not going to happen now. I’m going to make sure everybody mans up and still knows exactly what the directive is.”
Cleveland dropped their first game coming out of the bye week and it felt like one that they had to have. Beating New York was right there for the Browns and another game they let slip away, just like they did against the Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings. The Browns are 2-7 as a result and the upcoming schedule doesn’t get any easier with the Baltimore Ravens awaiting them in Week 11.
Garrett tallied sack No. 11 on the season already and is on pace to pass his career high for sacks in a season with 16 sacks in a season. Just like when Garrett had five sacks against the New England Patriots before the bye week, it didn’t matter because the team failed elsewhere. A year after going 3-14, it’s hard to find any improvements with the Browns outside of what could be a very good rookie class.
Back in the offseason, Garrett made a trade request and later recanted it by signing a new deal that pays him $40 million a year on average. Since then, the Browns have won two games and are putting the worst offense out on the field week after week. Week 10’s loss to the Jets was the worst loss of the season for the Browns and there is little doubt that changes are coming if this continues.
