Buffalo Bills Dion Dawkins reveals special message he got from Sean McDermott after embarrassing loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10

The Buffalo Bills were outmanned and outcoached in the loss to the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Sean McDermott always discusses the need for the team to play complementary football, which wasn’t on display at all during the loss.

Buffalo’s offense couldn’t get going, and the defense allowed running back De’Von Achane to run roughshod over the team with multiple touchdowns on the day.

Bills’ superstar OT Dion Dawkins was asked after the game about what kind of message McDermott gave them after such a frustrating and debilitating loss.

“Just hit the drawing board and stay mentally locked in, and remind yourself every day it’s hard to be winners. It’s hard to win in this league,” Dawkins said. “We need to show the true version of the Buffalo Bills at all times.”

Dawkins puts everything into perspective moments after the loss

When Dawkins takes the mic, you know that it will be pure gold that comes out. Even after a loss, he didn’t disappoint. The offensive lineman was asked about the contest and what the team will do moving forward.

“We just hit practice hard and remind ourselves every week that it’s hard to win in this league and come out swinging,” Dawkins said. “Don’t get punched first, punch them first. Just consistently remind yourself and remind your teammates that it’s hard to win in this league, and we have to be at our best at all times. Can never let the shield down at all.”

It’s not too different from the team’s last comments after back-to-back losses against the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots. The team is still trying to find its identity on offense.

One of the biggest issues with the team right now, aside from the struggling passing game and inconsistent ability to stop the run, is the high number of injuries.

Injuries are inevitable, but Buffalo has been hit particularly hard by them. Even in the loss, tight end Dalton Kincaid, who is one of Josh Allen’s best weapons, was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

There have been several players ruled out indefinitely or for the entire season with injury, something Dawkins was asked about postgame.

“It’s football, man. I wish I could speak on injuries, but who knows? Injuries come and go; they can come at any point, and you can never define the season on the injuries,” Dawkins said. “It’s 100% injury rate like you know, it’s all a part of it. Just like fumbles, and interceptions, and tackles for losses, and wins are losses are part of the game. We just gotta roll with what we roll with, take our shots.”

It’s been a frustrating stretch for Buffalo, outside of the win against the Chiefs, and Dawkins’ message cuts right to the core. The Bills aren’t out of it, but the margin for error is slim. If this team truly wants to show the “real version” of itself, it starts with matching Dawkins’ energy — hitting back, not waiting to get hit.
