The Dolphins’ front office purge continues as Miami reportedly parts ways with two major figures in its scouting department
Chris Grier isn’t the only change this fall.
The Miami Dolphins kick-started some sweeping changes to their football operation at the end of October when it was announced that they had agreed to part ways with general manager Chris Grier. It was a massive move given Grier’s tenure with the organization. He’d been with the team in some capacity for over 25 years — nearly nine of them serving as the general manager by title.
In tandem with that decision, Miami named Champ Kelly as the team’s interim general manager until a new executive was settled upon. And after putting the finishing touches on a trade deadline trade of Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelly appears to have set his sights on the rest of Miami’s scouting department.
There are more dismissals high up in Miami’s chain of command.
Dolphins dismissed their Co-Directors of Player Personnel on Monday
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed that Miami parted ways with Adam Engroff and Anthony Hunt — the team’s co-directors of player personnel. It’s difficult to know exactly what goes into a decision like this one.
However, there is some value in reflecting on what Champ Kelly said the process was like to integrate a new general manager into the fray when he was the interim general manager in Las Vegas with the Raiders in 2023 and early 2024.
Kelly described in interviews with the Raiders that his role was to revamp the scouting department and, upon the change of general manager, help fold in the new decision-makers into the scouting process that the rest of the team had conducted in the fall.
Miami Dolphins player personnel changes this fall
- Parted ways with general manager Chris Grier (10/31/2025)
- Split with co-Director of Player Personnel Adam Engroff (11/10/2025)
- Split with co-Director of Player Personnel Anthony Hunt (11/10/2025)
Logic would dictate that Kelly will likely be charged with something similar in Miami. Does that mean Kelly is taking a more hands-on approach with this change to help that process when a new executive is installed? Were there exceptions with the coordination efforts of Engroff and Hunt that changed their status instead?
It’s hard to say until we hear from Kelly or someone else in the upper reaches of the Dolphins’ football operation on the matter.
What we do know is that there’s little reason to question whether legitimate change is coming to the Dolphins this offseason. Massive change looms on the horizon — even if it only starts with a slow trickle of news between now and the offseason.
