Kansas City Chiefs’ latest practice squad roster move brings back recently released UDFA wide receiver
A standout undrafted rookie returns to the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to shuffle their practice squad following recent moves, re-signing a recently released undrafted free-agent wide receiver.
Jimmy Holiday is back on the practice squad after the team terminated his contract to make room for veteran DE Malik Herring. With the Pittsburgh Steelers poaching DT Brodric Martin during the bye week, the Chiefs had an open spot on the practice squad and decided to bring Holiday back.
While fans eyeballed former Chiefs S Juan Thornhill as a potential addition after his release from the Steelers, it should be no surprise that Holiday is back. After his standout performance during training camp and the 2025 NFL preseason, Holiday is precisely the type of player a team would want to continue to develop at the wide receiver position.
Why the Chiefs are keeping Jimmy Holiday around
Given the Chiefs’ needs, many fans are scratching their heads over this signing. The reality is that Holiday is more valuable to this team as someone who has been with it than any outside addition they could make. Not only does he have value as depth, but he’s someone who can work on the scout team alongside Jason Brownlee, without taking snaps away from gameday contributors on the 53-man roster.
Chiefs’ updated 2025 practice squad
- WR Jason Brownlee
- LB Cole Christiansen
- DE Ethan Downs
- S Mike Edwards
- RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
- DE Malik Herring
- WR Jimmy Holiday
- OT Chu Godrick
- OL C.J. Hanson
- QB Chris Oladokun
- DT Zacch Pickens
- OL Esa Pole
- CB Melvin Smith
- DE Tyreke Smith
- FB Carson Steele
- DT Marlon Tuipulotu
- TE Tre Watson
As a developmental piece for the future, Holiday flashed throughout training camp and the preseason. He had a 50-yard reception in the Week 3 preseason game against the Chicago Bears. He also had a big special teams tackle in that game on kickoff coverage.
He has value as a gadget player on sweeps, orbit motion, and screen passes. He’s precisely the type of depth piece you want to continue to develop because he could easily turn into a more substantial contributor for Kansas City down the line.
