The Kansas City Chiefs have a new offensive line injury to worry about after the Week 11 loss versus the Denver Broncos.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed that second-year starter Kingsley Suamataia was the lone player to suffer an injury during the game.

“All right, as far as the injuries go, really, Kingsley (Suamataia) was the only one that got hurt on the interception there,” Reid said. “So, he hit his head on the turf.”

The good news is that Suamataia was the only injury during the game. The bad news is that this adds another layer of uncertainty to the Kansas City offensive line, which was only just getting back to full strength after Josh Simmons missed the past four games.

Chiefs LG Kingsley Suamataia suffers a concussion in Week 11 vs. Broncos

At around the 10-minute mark in the third quarter, Chiefs starting left guard Kingsley Suamataia was taken out of the game and evaluated for a head injury. This came following Patrick Mahomes’ interception, where Suamataia was in pursuit and landed awkwardly on his head. He was placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol after league spotters called for his evaluation.

Chiefs backup OG Mike Caliendo replaced Suamataia at left guard for a six-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to end the third quarter. To start the fourth quarter of the game, the team ruled Suamataia out, which indicates that he didn’t clear the league concussion protocol.

Caliendo also filled in for Suamataia for the entire fourth quarter of the game, including a six-play, 73-yard touchdown drive.

If Suamataia is out beyond Week 11, the Chiefs will likely rely on Caliendo. He has seven career starts, including the postseason. He was the Chiefs’ starter at left guard in the Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He has 41 game appearances during his NFL career.
