After the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, it looked like Mason Rudolph was the next man up. An awkward fall caused what has now been deemed a broken bone in Aaron Rodgers’ left wrist.

But the keyword there is “left.” Rodgers pushed to come back into the game after halftime, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on “Sunday Night Countdown.” But it goes beyond that. The thought on Sunday evening was that Rodgers dodged a bullet and suffered a short-term injury.

However, if it’s up to him, that second half against the Bengals is the only time Rodgers will miss.

Aaron Rodgers is pushing to play vs. the Bears

“Aaron Rodgers, to my understanding, has told people close to him that he’ll be back very soon. He has told more people close to him that he does not want to miss a game. He is pushing to play in this game [vs. Bears],” reported Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday morning.

“I know it seems crazy because he broke a bone in his wrist, but it is his left wrist. If he can grip, if he’s able to receive the ball on the snap, it is actually possible that Rodgers could play this week. I had someone tell me that he was essentially 50-50 to play this week. So it sounds bad, but Aaron Rodgers does want to play and is trying to see how he could do it for the Steelers.”

Typically, you hear broken anything, and you assume that a player will miss some time. The decision-makers in Pittsburgh clearly weren’t comfortable having Rodgers return after initially suffering the injury, despite Rodgers wanting to, but now the ball is in his court.

I’m sure everyone involved would like a week or two off for Rodgers to make sure everything is fine. But go look at the Steelers’ next three games. This week, they travel to take on the Chicago Bears before dates against the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens. A Ravens team that has won four games in a row, mind you.

So Rodgers knows how pivotal this next month is for Pittsburgh and what it means for the Steelers’ playoff chances. We’ll gather more information based on MRI imaging and Mike Tomlin’s weekly presser on Tuesday, but I wouldn’t bet against Rodgers strapping on the pads against the Bears.
