The Florida Gators could be getting one of their best players back just in time for the matchup against the Tennessee Vols this weekend.

CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Monday that there’s a “growing likelihood” that Florida defensive lineman Caleb Banks will return to action this week against the Volunteers.

Banks hasn’t played since re-injuring his foot in Florida’s loss to LSU in September.

What Florida interim head coach Billy Gonzales said about Caleb Banks’ status

Banks was solid for the Gators last season, totaling 21 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles (Banks had a season-high five tackles against the Vols last season).

The former four-star recruit missed the first two games of the 2025 season while recovering from the foot injury he suffered last year.

Florida interim head coach Billy Gonzales said on Monday that Banks has been “cleared to play”.

“He’s been cleared to play so obviously the return to play aspect of it is going to be based on his body and how he comes through and performs this week at practice,” said Gonzales of Banks on Monday. “Everybody is a little different. It takes some players a little bit longer to come back after the return to play. But I know as far as his attitude and willingness and eagerness to come back, he wants to come back immediately.”

Tennessee and Florida are set to kick off at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday night. The Vols are looking for their first win in the Swamp since 2003.
