Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel’s Monday press conference to open Florida week had a bit of an awkward ending thanks to a question about former UT defensive back Boo Carter.

Carter, who was dismissed from Tennessee’s football team on Sunday, claimed in an interview with Football Scoop that he told UT’s coaching staff throughout the week that his hip flexor was “still messed up.”

“I told them (Vols coaches) throughout the week that my hip flexor was still messed up,” said Carter to FootballScoop. “Friday, they told me to just go home, and that was that.

“I’ve been doing everything I could,” added Carter. “I told him (Heupel) I was hurt. He wanted me to play hurt throughout the whole season. I don’t know, how he’s putting it is making it sound like the stuff that happened in fall camp still [has an impact in November].”

Josh Heupel says Boo Carter shouldn’t have been listed on SEC injury reports before his dismissal

Heupel was asked on Monday if Carter should’ve been listed on any SEC injury reports this season (Carter hadn’t been listed on recent reports).

“No, sir,” replied Heupel. “Not based on our trainers.”

That question ended Heupel’s press conference.

The last SEC injury report that Tennessee submitted was before playing Oklahoma earlier this month. Carter, who wasn’t listed on that report, played zero defensive snaps against the Sooners, but he returned punts.

According to the SEC’s website, penalties for inaccurate or late reports range from $25,000 to $100,000 per violation. We’ll see if Carter’s claim to Football Scoops leads to the SEC looking into whether the sophomore defensive back should’ve been listed on any SEC injury reports by Tennessee.
